AI for Sustainable Communities: Empowering Generations Through Play and Project Management
Project Management Institute UK Sustainability Summit 2025
In this session, āAI for Sustainable Communities: Empowering Generations Through Play and Project Management,ā Tao Chun Liu, PMP, explores how artificial intelligence and project management can come together to create inclusive, intergenerational learning environments that support sustainability and social connection. Drawing from a real community initiative, Tao presents how underprivileged children, parents, and daycare center elders interact and learn together through AI-driven activities designed to spark creativity, empathy, and shared purpose. In this program, children engage with AI through storytelling, drawing, and interactive classroom activitiesāwhile parents and elders serve as mentors and co-learners. Through guided sessions, everyone learns how to communicate with AI tools, interpret responses, and use technology as a medium for creativity and self-expression. Elders rediscover their value by sharing life wisdom and receiving support to understand AI concepts, while parents strengthen family bonds and digital literacy alongside their children. The session demonstrates how project management principlesāstakeholder coordination, agile adaptation, and impact measurementācan be applied to design, manage, and sustain such social innovation projects. Tao emphasizes the connection to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and SDG 4 (Quality Education), showing how AI can promote lifelong learning, reduce inequality, and enhance mental and emotional well-being through meaningful engagement. By the end of the session, attendees will discover how project managers can apply their skills and tools to design scalable, AI-enabled community programs that nurture sustainability, empathy, and intergenerational learningāproving that technology, when guided by human connection, can truly make a difference.
